FAQ

My Pro Subscription is missing?

This is a common question, especially from users with multiple accounts setup on their phone.

Please follow the instructions here: Troubleshooting Pro Subscriptions

Why is data not showing on the map?

This is usually caused by a downloading issue. Either there is no network connectivity or it's flaky, the data server is down or the downloaded data is corrupted.

Here are some steps you can follow to fix the issue:

  1. Check the network is connected and has connectivity.
  2. Click "Refresh" which will check for new data and reload the data.
  3. Click "Refresh" twice which will give you the option to download all the data again.

If the problem persists, send me a screenshot and the debug log via Feedback in the side menu.

Why are the temperatures wrong?

Flowx shows the raw data from weather simulations. These global simulations are unable to resolve finer details at ground level, which can lead to a bias error in temperature. This bias is usually corrected using a technique called Model Output Statistics (MOS) and this is what you see in 99% of other weather apps. The disadvantage of MOS is that it is restricted to point locations where weather stations exist (airports, towns and cities), so you lose the spatial view of large weather systems. One day we would like to include MOS results in Flowx.

See the wikipedia on MOS for more details.

Why have a 10 or 16-day forecast if the predictions change every day? Good question.

If you're planning something 10 days out, you can look 10 days out:

  1. If you see a large high pressure system, they are typically stable and you can be more certain you'll have good weather, i.e, invite people to the bbq party.
  2. If you see a low pressure system (storm or a band of rain), you know it might disappear, change its path or arrive a day or so earlier or later. So you keep an eye on it. In this case, you'll tell your friend it might be bad weather and we'll confirm 3 days out.

I did exactly this for my wedding. I watched the weather 7-10 days out on a website called MetVuw . It was a high pressure system, but windy. So we could plan our dry weather venue and not worry about our wet weather plan B.

After the wedding I thought this would be a good app and WeatherBomb was born six years later.

Why have subscriptions for pro?

We sell subscriptions since all our costs are ongoing (data processing, servers, testing, translations, development, marketing, support, etc). We've tried the "low price/high volume" approach with banner ads, video ads, cheap subscriptions and one-off purchases, and we are not covering the costs. This is not sustainable. Now we're going premium with premium data at sustainable prices.
